Volume One.

Volume One is a local arts and entertainment magazine based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. It highlights cool things happening in the Chippewa Valley.

I wrote for them as a volunteer contributor in 2018 and 2019. Here are a few examples of what I worked on. I chose to focus on Menomonie-area things for the most part. I’d like to say it was because it’s an under-represented town with a lot to offer, but mostly it was nice not to have to drive very far to cover stories. Whatever. Don’t judge.

Some examples …

Historic and Homey: Durand Brewing Co. offers classic taps, relaxed setting

“Walking into Durand Brewing Company feels a lot like walking into your neighbor’s garage. Except this joint has more than just Busch Light. When people inevitably seek it out, they have plenty of other options.“

Speak Easy, Menomonie: The Gin Mill offers tasty cocktails and everyman brews

“There’s a new speakeasy in Menomonie. But it’s OK – you don’t have to keep it a secret.”

Meat Me in Menomonie: Cut Rite Meat Shoppe offers local selection & expert advice

“Brent Hanson has been cutting meat since he was 16 years old. ‘I worked in a grocery store – worked my way into the meat department. And I’ve been doing it ever since,’ said Hanson, who owns Cut Rite Meat Shoppe in Menomonie.”
